Healthcare courier at a glance

What is a healthcare courier?

A healthcare courier is a dedicated delivery service for the equipment, supplies and time-critical items that clinics, hospitals and care providers depend on. Flextro collects the consignment and drives it directly to the site or department that needs it, on one vehicle, with no parcel depot in between.

The work is usually one of two kinds. Urgent transfers, where a clinic, ward or appointment list is waiting on an item today. And planned movements, such as supply runs, equipment between sites and returns to suppliers, which run to a schedule.

Healthcare goods vary widely in what they need. Some items have packaging, temperature or regulatory requirements. So the exact consignment and its handling are confirmed before a booking is accepted, and a job is only taken on when it can be carried properly.

Courier options for healthcare

Healthcare courier services for clinics, hospitals and care

Most healthcare delivery falls into six patterns, from an item a clinic needs within hours to the same supply run every morning. Each one runs on a vehicle dedicated to your job.

For clinical and pathology work, the dedicated medical courier page covers what can be carried and how in more detail.

What healthcare sites send

What does a healthcare courier carry?

Equipment, supplies and items that healthcare sites need moved directly and on time. Anything with specific requirements is checked before it is accepted.

Medical equipment

Monitors, pumps, instruments and portable equipment between sites and suppliers.

Clinical supplies

Consumables, dressings and stock for wards, clinics and practices.

Pharmacy stock

Pharmacy supplies moved between sites, subject to confirmation of what can be carried.

Beds and mobility equipment

Beds, chairs and mobility aids, with two-person handling where needed.

Records and paperwork

Patient paperwork and administrative documents handed to a named recipient.

Repairs and returns

Equipment going to and from repair, servicing and suppliers.

Samples, medicines or temperature-controlled items? These can carry packaging, temperature and regulatory requirements. The exact item and its handling are confirmed before a booking is accepted, and some may not be carried. See the medical courier page for clinical work.

Before the vehicle leaves

What we confirm before a healthcare job starts

In healthcare, an item delivered to the wrong department or travelling in the wrong conditions can matter as much as a late one. These six details are agreed before collection.

You do not need all six to call. Give us what you know and we will ask for the rest.
Consignment

What is moving

Exactly what the item is, how it is packed, and any temperature, orientation or regulatory requirement.

Collection

Where it is now

A hospital department, clinic, pharmacy, supplier or store, and the person releasing it.

Delivery

Where it needs to be

The site, building and department, with any security desk, loading bay or reception route.

Timing

When it is needed

The clinic start, procedure or appointment time, so the job is planned backwards from that.

Handling

How it must travel

Fragile, heavy or upright items, and whether a second person or specific handling is required.

Reference

How it is recorded

Your order, requisition or department reference on the booking, and proof of delivery at handover.

When a site is waiting

How does a healthcare courier work?

In four steps. You tell us the item and where it is needed; Flextro confirms it can be carried, assigns a vehicle and fixes the price; the driver collects from the site or supplier; and it is delivered to the department with proof of delivery. The booking line is open 24 hours a day.

Flextro works to a 60-minute collection target in most areas. Call 020 4576 3438 when a site is waiting.

Nationwide healthcare coverage

Where does Flextro deliver for healthcare providers?

Across the whole UK. Flextro collects from and delivers to hospitals, clinics, GP practices, pharmacies, care homes and healthcare suppliers in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

An item does not stop at a regional boundary. Equipment from a supplier in Leeds can go straight to a clinic in Manchester, or supplies from a store in Croydon to a care home in Brighton, on the same vehicle from collection to delivery.

Vehicle matching

Which vehicle does a healthcare delivery need?

It depends on the item. Supplies and small equipment fit a small van, larger equipment needs an LWB, and beds or several pieces of equipment need a Luton. Give the size, weight and handling needs and the vehicle is matched for you.

For healthcare providers

One courier account for healthcare organisations

If equipment and supplies move between your sites every week, a Flextro business account replaces booking each job with agreed rates, scheduled runs and one monthly invoice. An urgent transfer still gets its own vehicle, on the same account.

Sites, departments, delivery routes and contacts are kept on file. When a clinic is waiting, the booking team already knows where the item is going, so briefing an urgent job takes a sentence.

Healthcare courier pricing

How much does a healthcare courier cost?

A healthcare courier is priced on three things: how quickly the item has to arrive, the vehicle it needs, and the route including time on site. There is no rate card, because a box of supplies this afternoon and a bed next week are different jobs.

Your price is fixed before the booking is accepted. No percentage of the item’s value, and no surcharges added afterwards.

Response time

How quickly the item must arrive.

  • Same day for a waiting clinic or ward
  • Scheduled supply runs
  • Night, weekend or bank holiday work

Supply runs booked ahead cost less than the same items raised as urgent.

Vehicle and handling

The vehicle and handling the item needs.

  • Size, weight and packaging
  • Upright or fragile equipment
  • Two-person handling for beds and chairs

The item is used to size the vehicle and handling, not to price the goods.

Route and site time

The journey and the time at each end.

  • Collection-to-site mileage
  • Security, loading bay and department time
  • Multi-site rounds and return legs

Regular runs between sites are priced once and invoiced monthly on an account.

Healthcare courier FAQs

Questions healthcare providers ask before booking

Straight answers for practice managers, estates teams, pharmacy staff and anyone arranging a healthcare delivery.

Can you carry medical samples or medicines?

Some samples and medicines carry packaging, temperature and regulatory requirements. The exact item and its handling are confirmed before a booking is accepted, and some may not be carried. The medical courier page covers clinical work in more detail.

How quickly can you collect?

Flextro works to a 60-minute collection target in most areas, 24 hours a day, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. The exact timing is confirmed when you book.

Can you deliver to a specific hospital department?

Yes. Give the building, department, any security desk or loading bay and a named contact when you book, and the driver takes the item to the agreed handover point.

Do you move beds and heavy equipment?

Yes. Vehicles range from a small van to a Luton, and a two-person team can handle and position heavy equipment where access allows. Share the weight and dimensions so the right vehicle and team are assigned.

Can you run regular deliveries between our sites?

Yes. Movements that repeat daily or weekly can be set up as a scheduled contract run with an agreed route and time windows, and invoiced monthly on a business account.

Can you take equipment to and from repair?

Yes. Equipment going for repair, servicing or calibration can be collected from your site and delivered to the supplier or engineer, and returned on a later booking or as a wait-and-return.

How much does a healthcare courier cost?

Each job is priced on how quickly it has to arrive, the vehicle and handling needed, and the route including time on site. You receive a fixed price before you confirm, and it does not change afterwards unless the job changes.

Do you cover the whole of the UK?

Yes. Flextro collects and delivers across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and a single job can cross the country on the same vehicle.
