Manufacturing courier at a glance

What is a manufacturing courier?

A manufacturing courier is a dedicated delivery service for the parts, tooling and materials that keep production running. Flextro collects from factories, suppliers and machine shops and drives the consignment directly to the site that needs it, on one vehicle, with no parcel depot in between.

The work falls into two kinds. Unplanned jobs, where a machine or line has stopped and a replacement part has to arrive within hours. And planned movements, such as inter-site transfers, supplier collections and finished goods, which run to a schedule and cost less when booked ahead.

The difference from a parcel network is handling and time. A component is loaded once and handed over once, so it is not sorted, stacked or held at a hub, and it arrives at the time you were quoted rather than within a delivery window.

Courier options for manufacturers

Manufacturing courier services for every production need

Most manufacturing delivery falls into six patterns, from a stopped line that needs a part within hours to the same inter-site run every morning. Each one runs on a vehicle dedicated to your job.

Not sure which fits? Describe the part and the deadline, and Flextro will match the service and confirm the price before you commit.

What manufacturers send

What does a manufacturing courier carry?

Anything that keeps production moving and fits a van, from a single sensor to a full pallet load. These are the consignments we are asked to move most often.

Machine and breakdown parts

Motors, bearings, pumps, sensors, drives and PLCs for stopped equipment.

Tooling, jigs and dies

Press tools, moulds, fixtures and cutting tools between plants and toolrooms.

Components and sub-assemblies

Machined, fabricated and assembled parts moving between processes and subcontractors.

Electrical parts and cable

Control panels, PCBs, switchgear and cable drums for production and maintenance.

Samples, prototypes and first-off parts

Development parts and first-off samples going to customers or test houses.

Materials and finished goods

Raw materials, castings, packaging and finished stock on pallets or in bulk.

Hazardous or regulated items? Chemicals, gases, batteries and other dangerous goods are checked against what can legally be carried before a booking is accepted. Tell us what the item is when you ask for a quote.

Before the vehicle leaves

What we confirm before a manufacturing job starts

A breakdown part that arrives at the wrong gate, or a pallet that needs a tail lift nobody booked, costs as much time as a late one. These six details are agreed before collection.

You do not need all six to call. Give us what you know and we will ask for the rest.
Part

What is moving

Part name, quantity, weight and dimensions, and whether it is boxed, crated or on a pallet.

Collection

Where it is now

Stores, goods-out, a supplier trade counter or another plant, with the contact who will release it.

Delivery

Where it needs to be

Goods-in, a maintenance team or line-side, plus any gatehouse, PPE or site induction rules.

Timing

When the line needs it

The time production restarts or the shift begins, so the job is planned backwards from that.

Handling

How it must travel

Heavy, fragile, long or oily items, and whether a tail lift, straps or a second person are needed.

Reference

How it is recorded

Your job, PO or work order number on the booking, and proof of delivery at the handover.

When a line stops

How does a manufacturing courier work?

In four steps. You tell us the part and when the line needs it; Flextro assigns a vehicle and fixes the price; the driver collects from wherever the part is; and it is delivered direct to the site with proof of delivery. The booking line is open 24 hours a day, including bank holidays.

Flextro works to a 60-minute collection target in most areas. Call 020 4576 3438 when a machine is down.
01 · Call

Tell us the part and the deadline

The part, where it is, where it needs to be and the time the line needs it running again.

02 · Assign

Vehicle and price confirmed

A vehicle matched to the part is assigned and a fixed price agreed before the booking is accepted.

03 · Collect

Direct collection

The driver collects from stores, goods-out or your supplier, using your job or PO reference.

04 · Deliver

Straight to the site

One journey to goods-in or line-side, updates on the way and proof of delivery at the handover.

Nationwide manufacturing coverage

Where does Flextro collect for manufacturers?

Across the whole UK. Flextro collects from and delivers to factories, industrial estates, engineering works and supplier sites in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, including the West and East Midlands, the North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, the North East, South Wales and Central Scotland.

A part does not stop at a regional boundary. A bearing from a supplier in Sheffield can go straight to a line in Swindon, or a die from a toolroom in the Black Country to a press shop in Wales, on the same vehicle from collection to delivery.

Vehicle matching

Which vehicle does a manufacturing delivery need?

It depends on the part, not the plant. A single bearing or sensor fits a small van, while a gearbox, a set of dies or a pallet of castings needs an LWB or Luton. Give the dimensions, weight and pallet count and the vehicle is matched for you.

For manufacturers

One courier account for manufacturing businesses

If parts and stock move between your sites every week, a Flextro business account replaces booking each job with agreed rates, scheduled runs and one monthly invoice. Breakdowns still get an emergency vehicle, on the same account.

Scheduled runs are planned around your shift pattern, with the collection points, delivery points and site rules kept on file. When a line stops, the booking team already knows your gatehouse, goods-in and contacts, so briefing an urgent job takes a sentence.

Manufacturing courier pricing

How much does a manufacturing courier cost?

A manufacturing courier is priced on three things: how quickly the part has to move, the vehicle the load needs, and the route including any time on site. There is no rate card, because a sensor tonight and a pallet next week are different jobs.

Your price is fixed before the booking is accepted. No percentage of the part’s value, and no surcharges added afterwards.

Response time

How quickly the part has to be collected and delivered.

  • Emergency collection for a stopped line
  • Same day, next day or scheduled timing
  • Night, weekend or bank holiday work

A breakdown part moved tonight costs more than the same part booked for tomorrow.

Vehicle and load

The smallest vehicle that carries the part safely.

  • Weight, dimensions and pallet count
  • Long items such as shafts or extrusions
  • Tail lift or two-person handling

The goods are used to size the vehicle, not to price the part itself.

Route and site time

The journey and the time spent at each end.

  • Collection-to-delivery mileage
  • Gatehouse, booking-in or loading time
  • Return legs and multi-site rounds

Regular inter-site runs are priced once and invoiced monthly on an account.

Manufacturing courier FAQs

Questions manufacturers ask before booking

Straight answers for production managers, maintenance teams, buyers and anyone arranging a delivery for a plant or engineering business.

What is a manufacturing courier?

A manufacturing courier is a dedicated delivery service for parts, tooling and materials that production depends on. Flextro collects from factories, suppliers and machine shops and drives the consignment directly to the site that needs it, on one vehicle, without routing it through a parcel depot.

How quickly can you collect a breakdown part?

Flextro works to a 60-minute collection target in most areas, 24 hours a day, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. The exact time depends on the collection address and the vehicle the part needs, and is confirmed when you book.

Can you deliver straight to goods-in or line-side?

Yes. Give the delivery point, the gatehouse or booking-in process and a site contact when you book. The driver takes the part to the agreed handover point and proof of delivery is recorded there.

Can you collect parts from our supplier for us?

Yes. Flextro can collect from a supplier, distributor or subcontractor on your behalf and deliver direct to your site. Give us the supplier’s address, contact and your order or collection reference.

Do you move pallets and heavy components?

Yes. Vehicles range from a small van to a Luton, and a tail lift or a second person can be arranged where the load needs it. Share the weight, dimensions and pallet count so the right vehicle is assigned.

Can you run regular inter-site transfers?

Yes. Movements that repeat daily, weekly or on a shift pattern can be set up as a scheduled contract run with an agreed route, time windows and vehicle, and invoiced monthly on a business account.

Are there items you cannot carry?

Dangerous goods such as some chemicals, gases and batteries are checked against what can legally be carried before a booking is accepted, and some may not be. Tell us exactly what the item is when you request a quote.

How much does a manufacturing courier cost?

Each job is priced on how quickly it has to move, the vehicle the load needs, and the route including time on site. You receive a fixed price before you confirm, and it does not change afterwards unless the job changes.

Do you cover the whole of the UK?

Yes. Flextro collects and delivers across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, including every major manufacturing region, and a single job can cross the country on the same vehicle.
