eCommerce delivery explained

What is an eCommerce delivery service?

An eCommerce delivery service transports online orders, retail stock, returns or replacement goods from a collection point to the destination. Flextro covers the transport stage: collecting from your premises, supplier or store and delivering by the courier method that suits the job, in a vehicle matched to the load.

It suits online retailers whose orders are urgent, too large or awkward for a standard parcel service, spread across several drops on one route, or tied to store transfers, supplier collections and returns that need closer coordination. Our guide to choosing an eCommerce fulfilment service in the UK explains where courier delivery fits.

Delivery for eCommerce businesses

When a parcel network is not the right fit for an order

Online retailers do not all have the same delivery requirement. Some orders are urgent. Some are too large or awkward for a normal parcel service. Some need several customer drops on one planned route. Others involve store transfers, supplier collections or returns that need closer coordination.

For direct jobs a dedicated vehicle is assigned to your consignment. For multiple orders, we plan one route around your delivery list.

Customer orders

Direct deliveries where timing or handling needs more control than a parcel network gives, including high-value and time-sensitive orders.

The Flextro eCommerce model

Your orders. One direct journey.

A standard parcel network moves every order through depots and sorting hubs on a fixed timetable. Flextro does something different with the delivery leg.

A vehicle is assigned to the job, the goods are collected from your premises, supplier or store, and the same vehicle completes the journey. Fewer handling stages means a shorter chain of custody, and a delivery you can plan your own operation around. More on the model in what a dedicated courier service is.

UK-wide coverage

Collections and deliveries between business, retail, supplier and customer locations across England, Scotland and Wales.

Vehicle matching

Consignment size, weight, quantity and loading access decide the vehicle, so bulky and palletised orders are not forced into parcel limits.

One-off or recurring

A single urgent order, a planned multi-drop route or a repeat weekly run are all quoted the same way, with no account or minimum volume.

Delivery records

Updates while the route runs and proof of delivery at handover, so your team can close the order or route against a clear record.

Which eCommerce delivery service do you need?

The right option depends on urgency, the number of stops, consignment size and whether the requirement is one-off or recurring. Our same-day versus next-day comparison sets out the trade-off between the first two.

Same-Day eCommerce Delivery

How it works

How does eCommerce delivery work with Flextro?

Booking runs in five steps, from delivery brief to proof of delivery. Most retailers can brief a job in a couple of minutes with two postcodes and a description of the load.

No account or minimum volume is required. One-off jobs and recurring routes are both quoted the same way.
Step 01

Share the job

Tell us the collection point, destination, timing, number of stops and what is being moved.

Step 02

We match the service

Flextro matches the job to same-day, next-day, multi-drop, pallet or a recurring arrangement.

Step 03

We match the vehicle

Size, weight, quantity and loading access determine the vehicle assigned to the consignment.

Step 04

Your courier collects

The driver collects from the agreed location and follows the planned direct or multi-stop route.

Step 05

Delivery and POD

Delivery updates and proof of delivery are recorded so your team can close the order or route.

Where it fits

When should an online retailer use a dedicated courier?

Flextro is most useful where the delivery needs a controlled journey, a specific time, a larger vehicle or a planned route across several stops.

Tell the booking team where the driver collects, who can receive the goods and what the loading access is like at both ends.
Urgent

Missed the carrier cut-off

Replacement orders and time-critical customer deliveries that cannot wait for the next network cycle.

Oversized

Too big for a parcel service

Furniture, equipment and bulky goods that fall outside standard network size and weight limits.

Routes

Several orders, one run

A local delivery list grouped into a single planned multi-drop route from your premises.

Retail

Store and stock transfers

Replenishment between branches, and inbound collections from suppliers into your own storage.

Recurring

The same run every week

Scheduled courier routes set up around a predictable weekly or monthly delivery pattern.

Returns

Goods coming back

Collections from a customer, store or business location under a coordinated return plan.

Dedicated courier delivery vs a standard parcel network

Both models are legitimate. Parcel networks are ideal for high-volume, standard-sized orders on a predictable timetable. A dedicated courier is useful when the delivery needs a controlled journey, a specific time, a larger vehicle or a planned route.

Parcel networks price per parcel and move it through hubs. Flextro prices the journey and drives it. Background reading: courier vs postal service.

Before you request a quote

What information do you need for an eCommerce delivery quote?

Six details let Flextro quote accurately the first time, without a chain of follow-up emails. If you do not have all of them yet, send what you have and the team will fill the gaps on the phone.

If the delivery has a fixed window, a booking-in requirement at goods-in, or a site with restricted loading access, say so before the job is accepted so the route can be planned properly rather than rescheduled later.

Our fleet

Which vehicle does an eCommerce delivery need?

Five vehicle classes, matched to the load rather than chosen by you. Send the number of orders or pallets, rough dimensions and weight, and any loading restrictions at either end, and Flextro will confirm which one the job needs — and, just as often, that a smaller one will do. Background reading: what size courier van do I need?

Contents matter

What should you confirm before booking a delivery?

Do not assume everything you sell can travel by courier without checking. Acceptance depends on the goods, the route and Flextro's current terms.

If there is any doubt about a product line, describe it before collection. The booking team can confirm acceptance, handling and whether goods-in-transit cover applies, which is a far better conversation to have in advance than at the loading bay. Cover is subject to the applicable policy terms, limits and exclusions.

UK-wide courier coverage

Where does Flextro deliver eCommerce orders?

Flextro collects from warehouses, stores, suppliers and business premises and delivers to customer, retail and business addresses across England, Scotland and Wales.

An order might be crossing one city or the length of the country. What is realistic depends on distance, traffic, loading access at both ends, goods-in hours and driver-hours rules, all of which are checked before the job is confirmed rather than promised in advance.

Warehouse → customer

Direct delivery of online orders where timing or handling needs more control.

Store → store

Retail stock transfers between branches, sites and operating locations.

Supplier → warehouse

Inbound collections from suppliers into your own storage space.

One route, many drops

Several customer orders grouped into a single planned multi-drop run.

Customer → business

Returns and recovery collections when goods need to come back to you.

Pallet movements

Palletised retail stock and bulk order transport with a matched vehicle.

Pricing

How much does eCommerce delivery cost?

There is no fixed price list. UK eCommerce delivery is quoted per job, because the cost is driven by the route and the vehicle rather than a per-parcel rate. Flextro confirms a price before the booking is accepted, so you know the figure before committing to the job.

The factors that move the price are:

  • Distance between the collection and delivery points, and the route between them.
  • Urgency, and whether the job needs a same-day or a planned collection.
  • The vehicle required, based on dimensions, weight and quantity.
  • Number of stops on the run, and the sequence they need to follow.
  • Loading and access requirements at either end, including waiting time.
  • Whether the work is a one-off job or a recurring route, which is quoted differently.

Recurring routes are usually priced as an agreed operating plan rather than job by job. For the mechanics of how courier pricing is built up, see how same-day courier pricing works.

Frequently asked questions

eCommerce delivery FAQs

Direct answers to the questions online retailers ask before choosing a courier delivery option.

What is an eCommerce delivery service?

An eCommerce delivery service transports online orders, retail stock, returns or replacement goods from a collection point to the required destination. Flextro's service focuses on courier transport rather than warehousing or pick-and-pack.

Is eCommerce delivery the same as eCommerce fulfilment?

No. Full eCommerce fulfilment usually includes warehousing, inventory storage, picking, packing and dispatch. Courier delivery is the transport stage only. Flextro provides the delivery, not the warehouse, and this page is focused on that courier service.

Can Flextro handle same-day eCommerce orders?

Yes. Same-day courier is one of the delivery options available for time-sensitive orders, urgent replacements and stock movements. Collection timing depends on the booking, location and vehicle availability, so confirm the requirement when requesting a quote.

Can you deliver several customer orders on one route?

Yes. Flextro's multi-drop courier service can plan several deliveries from your business into one route. Share the delivery list, time requirements and item details so the route can be assessed and sequenced.

Can you collect from my supplier, warehouse or store?

Yes, subject to the collection details and access arrangements. The collection point can be a business premises, supplier, store or other agreed location. Provide the full address, contact information and any loading instructions when booking.

Can Flextro move pallets or bulky eCommerce orders?

Yes. Flextro provides pallet and larger-vehicle courier options. Dimensions, weight, number of pallets and collection or delivery access matter because they determine the suitable vehicle and loading requirements.

Do I receive proof of delivery?

Yes. Flextro records proof of delivery at handover, alongside delivery updates while the route runs. If your business needs a particular POD format for a recurring route, include that requirement when the service is set up.

How much does eCommerce delivery cost?

Price depends on the collection and delivery locations, distance, urgency, vehicle requirement, item size and weight, number of stops, access requirements and whether the work is one-off or recurring. Flextro quotes per job and confirms the price before the booking is accepted.

Is there a minimum order volume or contract?

No. Flextro quotes one-off jobs and recurring routes the same way, and no account or minimum volume is required to book a single delivery. Scheduled runs are set up as an agreed operating plan when the requirement is regular.

Can I set up recurring eCommerce courier runs?

Yes. Scheduled and contract runs are available for repeat delivery requirements. Share the locations, frequency, typical volume and timing so Flextro can discuss a suitable operating plan and price.

What information do you need for a quote?

Provide the collection and delivery postcodes, desired timing, number of stops, what you are sending, approximate dimensions and weight, quantity, any pallet information and any loading or access requirements. For recurring work, include the expected frequency.

How quickly can you collect an urgent order?

Collection timing depends on where the goods are and which vehicles are free at that moment. Flextro does not publish a blanket collection promise. Send the collection postcode and the deadline, and the team will confirm what is achievable before you commit.

Do you deliver to residential customer addresses?

Yes. Deliveries can go to customer homes, business premises, stores or other agreed addresses. Include a contact name and number for the delivery end so the driver can complete the handover without a failed attempt.

Where does Flextro provide eCommerce delivery?

Flextro provides courier services across England, Scotland and Wales. Give the collection and delivery postcodes when requesting a quote so the route and the suitable service can be confirmed.
